Styrax Benzoin (Benzoin Essential Oil)


A surprisingly lovely, warming essential oil, perfect for cold winter days. As it's December at the time of writing, I have had many uses for this wonderful oil already this month, particularly in the treatment room in gorgeous winter massage blends. Read on to discover information about this wonderful oil....

Benefits

  • Soothing on the skin. Great for chapped, dry skin & dermatitis, helps maintain healthy skin tone

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Warms the heart and circulation (helps if you suffer from cold hands and feet)

  • A wonderful relief when feeling stressed or tense or emotionally exhausted.

  • Uplifting and warming

  • Supportive to the digestive system

  • Helps relieve symptoms of coughs, colds and sore throats


Fun fact

  • In ancient times they used this scent to drive away evil spirits.

  • Traditionally used as a comfort blanket when lonely, sad, depressed or bereaved.




Blends Well With

Sandalwood, rose, frankincense, cypress, juniper, lemon, orange, bergamot, violet leaf, jasmine, lavender, pine, petitgrain, spice oils.


Allergens

Benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate (very low percentage)

Recipe Suggestion - Warming Winter Oil (for chapped, dry skin)


In 30ml base oil (you can use any, but I suggest sweet almond, jojoba, coconut, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed etc) add the following essential oils and mix well:


2 drops Benzoin (Styrax benzion)

1 drop violet leaf (Viola odorata)

3 drops bitter orange oil (Citrus aurantium)


After your shower/bath or before bed, massage the oil into relevant areas of the body (particularly useful for dry heels, elbows, hands).


Essential Oil Safety:

  • Always read the EO safety guidance which should accompany your purchased bottle

  • Always dilute before use (seek advice for recommended quantities)

  • Avoid contact with the eyes/mucous membranes

  • Do not use essential oils if pregnant without seeking advice

  • Do not use on children younger than 5 without seeking advice

  • Use lower dilutions for children/elderly

  • Ensure pets can leave the room if diffusing essential oils (they might not like the aroma as much as you do)

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets

  • If you have any medical conditions seek advice

  • Never ingest

  • Stop use immediately if you experience a reaction - inform your therapist and seek medical advice

  • If you are asthmatic or have any other lung condition, test your body response by smelling the caps of each oil before using to ensure the oils do not cause sensitivity.

  • Caution/low dilution if you have sensitive skin. Do not use on young children.
